What Did The Tree Say to Spring?
What a re-leaf!
All dad jokes aside, we are so excited that spring is finally here! Going into Spring 2021 we wanted to let you know what we’re up to and what you can do to make the best of your outdoor space as the weather warms up. This time of year we are focused on knocking out any winter weeds still hanging around and prepping our clients’ yards with a stiff preemergence to defend from the onslaught of warm season weeds that love to invade Georgia turf. Some common spring weeds we aim to prevent are crabgrass, dallisgrass, dandelion, and spurge. There are a ton more, but those are just a few that you might have heard of.
Springtime is also when we begin aerating. We recommend aerating at least once a year. Annual aeration keeps the soil loose and gives your grass the room it needs to grow a hearty root system. It also promotes increased nutrient absorption. Speaking of nutrients, the spring is also when we begin to put down our special blend of micronutrients and fertilizers that make our clients’ lawns the superior shade of green they have come to know and love!
What’s that buzzing sound?
Weeds aren’t the only pest we have to deal with once it starts to heat up down south. Georgia is also home to 63 different species of mosquitos. Aside from the public health risk that comes with peach state skeeters, many of these species are known to transmit disease to pets and humans, they tend to be just downright annoying. No one wants to deal with being swarmed by hundreds of tiny vectors anytime they step outside and there is nothing worse than the itchy aftermath that is a result of their bite. With the weather warming up and all the rain Georgia gets early in the year the mosquito population explodes right about now.
That is why we start our mosquito treatment program each March. The program runs through the entirety of the mosquito season which in Georgia usually runs through October. Our treatments are based in an aggressive integrated pest management philosophy that aims to significantly reduce the population of mosquitoes on a clients’ property through a combination of environmentally friendly pest control product application and habitat reduction measures. The end goal is to allow our clients to avoid the itch and be able to enjoy their outdoor space all season long.
